Green Wine | Verdes    

                                              

Belenus White 2019 ~ £19.90, 175ml glass: ~ £5.25 

A blend of the grape varieties Loureiro, Arinto and Trajadura. This “vinho verde” (green wine) is a dry white with good acidity, very refreshing, with aromas of green apples. Low in alcohol with a gentle fizz. With soft mineral tones, is well balanced with medium structure.

 

Muros Antigos  Loureiro 2017  ~ £31

Born in the Lima valley, close to the river and the Atlantic ocean, the perfect spot for Loureiro grape variety. Hand-harvested, this “Vinho Verde has a lovely pale lime green color. Fresh and floral aromas on a menthol background. Creamy mid palate with vibrant acidity. Long finish with floral and citrus flavors.

 

 

 

 

White Wines | Brancos    

 

Quinta Lagoalva Talhão 1  2018, Tejo ~ £23, 175ml glass: ~ £5.95 

This blend of the local white grapes, Alvarinho, Arinto, Fernão Pires and Verdelho has been given a herbal twist with Sauvignon Blanc. It is fruity and still young with its lively acidity and crisp texture. With citrus yellow colour, this white wine has nose citrus and tropical fruit notes; the mouth has good acidity, it is fresh and balanced.

 

Oscar’s 2019, Douro ~ £26.50, 175ml glass: ~ £6.85

A ripe, smooth wine made mainly from Viosinho and Gouveio, this is a creamy-textured wine, rich with yellow fruits. It is cut by crisper acidity and a delicious, refreshing lemon-curd flavour. This smoothly textured medium to full bodied wine,  exacerbates limoncello, fine mineral taste, and a clean citrus flavour that lingers on and excites the taste buds.

 

Autocarro 38  2018, Peninsula de Setubal ~ £27.50

Strong nose with citrus notes, some stone conferring it a mineral touch. In the mouth, a striking yet non-aggressive acidity and once again remarkable flavours of citrus notes. This wine is a blend of Arinto and Galego Dourado. Awarded wine producer of the year in 2016, this winery is always rated among the top Portuguese wineries.

 

Hobby Antao Vaz 2017, Alentejo ~ £29, 175ml glass: ~ £7.50

Complex aromas and floral notes associated with the vanilla from the oak ageing, as well as a buttery popcorn scent. The palate is plump, fresh and balanced with toasty vanilla flavours. 

 

Vadio 2017, Bairrada ~ £34

The typical mineral freshness of Bairrada’s indigenous grapes cercial and bical is tempered by the ripeness of the fruit, and the combination is irresistible. Clean and fresh, with a citrine color., this wine has notes of asparagus and papaya. Intense, with mineral notes and a persistent acidity.

 

Quinta das Cerejeiras Reserva 2017, Obidos ~ £38

In this blend of Chardonnay, Arinto and Vital, a judicious use of wood gives spice, acidity and a delicious, crisp aftertaste. With its apple and quince flavours, the wine is fresh while also having a creamy aftertaste. It is a full-bodied wine, with a balanced elegance and freshness.

 

Redoma 2018, Douro ~ £43 

On the palate a light creaminess accompanies the fantastic natural acidity, resulting in a well-balanced, firm and persistent wine. Gloriously rich but at the same time fresh and light, it perfectly balances its fruit and acidity. Notes of white blossoms and some dried fruit culminate in the mineral and saline character of the wine’s long and compelling finish.

The predominant grape varieties are Rabigato, Códega do Larinho, Viosinho, Donzelinho and Gouveio.

 

Campolargo Cerceal 2015, Bairrada ~ £49

Pale lemon, this wine has a complex aroma and intensity, with ripe citrus (lemon, citrus peels), charred toasty oak, melon & under-ripe pineapple, apple & delicate sweet spice (nutmeg, cinnamon). Very fresh and with a good acidity, it has a long finish that fuses power & elegance.

 

 

Rose Wines | Rosés

                                                                                                                    

Oscar’s 2019, Douro ~ £26.50 , 175ml glass: ~ £6.85 

This smooth rich wine, dominated by Touriga Nacional, is full of both crisp fruit and bright acidity. It has a good depth of flavour, red fruits mainly strawberry and raspberry and a touch of red pepper. The result is a bright pink wine, combining fruit and freshness, which allows for unlimited food pairing combinations.

 

 

Casa de Pacos Vinhao 2017, Vinho Verde ~ £25.50

A delightful Vinho Verde rosé with strawberry and cranberry fruit flavours and rose petal, too. It is very light-bodied and the palate is all about fresh, lively, zesty, refreshing acidity. This wine is made from the most widely planted red grape in the Vinho Verde region, Vinhão. It is soft and juicy with a ripe character.

 

 

 

 

Red Wines | Tintos

 

 

Camolas Selection Reserve 2017, Peninsula de Setubal ~ £19.90, 175ml glass: ~ £5.25

A wine from the Setubal region produced with alicante, trincadeira and castelão francês. It has a dark, intense garnet colour. With a complex bouquet, it reveals typical notes of red fruits and mocha with a touch of wood. Well balanced acidity and ripe tannins.

 

 

Herdade Penedo Gordo 2017, Alentejo ~ £24, 175ml glass: ~ £6.45

Aged for 4 months in oak barrels, this wine shows a unique combination of exotic aromas with red berries.  This blend of Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional, Aragonez and Trincadeira has an aromatic intensity of spices and fruits blended in perfect harmony. A full bodied wine with soft tannins that leaves a long and elegant after taste.

Lively ruby colour. On the nose, red ripe fruits, combining discreet wood and chocolate flavours. With soft tannins and an elegant and balanced finish. Blend of Touriga Nacional,  Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz

 

Termeāo Passaro Branco 2015, Bairrada ~ £29

With a vibrant red-ruby colour this wine is a blend of Touriga Nacional and Castelão aged for 12 months in used French oak. Warm and rich around the mouth. Perfumed floral aromas that combine ripe berry fruits. Firm tannins with fresh acidity.

 

Autocarro 27 2014, Península de Setúbal ~ £32, 175ml glass ~ £8.25

Intense and refreshing nose with plum and red berries notes.  Vibrant acidity and well-balanced tannins. A blend of Aragonez, Cabernet Sauvignon and Touriga Nacional. It displays the ripe bramble fruit and fresh acidity of this terroir. An exuberant red with a touch of class.

Devaneio 2016, Lisboa ~ £36

Deep ruby colour.  Aroma of ripe fruit and vegetables. Intense in the mouth it is a lively and fresh wine. Blend of Syrah and Alicante Bouschet.

 

Quinta das Cerejeiras Reserva 2014, Obidos ~ £39

Beautiful ruby colour. Notes of cherry jam and vanilla and slightly spicy. Deep bouquet, well combined fruit and with a persistent finish. Evolved but still lively. Blend of Castelão, Touriga Nacional and Aragonez.

 

Deluto 2016, Alentejo ~ £41

Produced with the varieties Touriga Nacional, Syrah and Aragonez, this wine has a very deep colour, good aromatic concentration with notes of chocolate and spices. It has an intense flavour, with good structure and great persistent finish.

 

 

 

Reserva & Rare Wines – Red

Dium Syrah 2014, Alentejo ~ £48

Deep colour with aromas of ripe black fruit, notes of spices and dark chocolate. Elegant finishing but persistent. 

 

Rol de coisas antigas 2015, bairrada ~ £37

Intense red color with some depth, very complex aroma with notes of wild berries, which suggest some of the notes are typical of the different varieties of grapes that make up this original lot. Full of vigor in the mouth, long end. Good Acidity and well balanced.

 

Pôpa Doc Black Edition 2016, Douro ~ £39

Ruby colour. Clean and complex aroma. Highlights for the ripe fruits and notes of spices, in harmony with a light toasted aroma. Fresh with firm tannins. Balanced, showing persistence in structure and flavours. Blend of Old Vines; Tinta Roriz; Touriga Franca;Tinta Amarela and Tinto Cão.

 

Lolita 2013, Douro ~ £42

Aroma of ripe red fruit and floral shades. Smooth to the palate, revealing itself a very fruity wine, well textured, with firm acidity and tannins well-crafted, light bitter, a jovial but combative style. Blend of Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Old Vines.

 

Niepoort Batuta 2013, Douro ~ £98

With an attractive medium ruby-red hue, its austere aromas of fruits of the forest are in perfect harmony with the wine’s mineral notes. The oak offers only discreet hints of wood and spice. Complex, with plenty of vigor and tension on the palate, the wine boasts subtlety and a beautiful balance between concentration and acidity. A silky texture and firm structure match the wine’s polished tannins and elegant flavour profile. Despite its youth, the wine impresses with its harmonious and linear character, ending in a very long, elegant and seductive finish.  Blend of Rabigato, Códega, Viosinho, Donzelinho, Dorinto and others.

 

Quinta do Vale Meão 2013, Douro ~ £129

Very deep colour. With intense flora and red fruit aromas, the wine is extremely concentrated, with ripe tannins and elegant acidity. The palate boasts a complex range of black fruit, violet, and mineral with warm integrated oak components and a very long aftertaste. This wine has a wonderfully elegant feel, while adding some surprising pop and power to the gripping and lingering finish. Subtle at times, yet intense and persisten. Blend Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz.

Clear citrine colour. Fine and complex aroma with notes of pastry and nuts. Complex and persistent acidity, long and persistent finish.

Delicate, with light vegetal notes, cherry fruits and biscuit A complex but elegant Sparling Wine.

Dark cherry colour. Aroma of blackberries, raspberries and a touch of violets. On the palate beautiful texture, with good body and weight and dominated by pure primary flavors. The tannins are mostly hidden by primary fruit. 

 

Quevedo  Vintage 2005 ~ 50ml glass: ~ £7.75

Aromas of very mature red fruit (blackberries red plum figs), in the mouth it is a full-bodied and round wine with long and persistent finish.

 

Santa Eufémia White ~ £39, 50ml glass: ~ £3.90

Very elegant and fresh with a gilded colour. Melon aromas, plums and some tropical notes. In mouth, it is fresh and soft.
